We encourage patients to draw on their faith resources while they are in the hospital and after they return home. Patients or families may choose to contact their clergy or lay visitors during an illness. Deaconess Hospital does provide emergency pastoral care in critical situations. Also, a multi-faith chapel is located next to the elevators on the second floor for patients and families, providing a quiet place for prayer and reflection.
The Medical Ethics Committee is available to help address the difficult ethical questions that must sometimes be faced in a hospital. The Ethics Committee provides information and suggestions for patients and their doctors to consider as a part of the decision-making process. Patients can ask their attending nurse to contact a member of the committee for a meeting.
